|Subject: GTA 5 online to one day encompass entire world Fri Sep 13, 2013 7:37 am|| |
GTA 5 developer Rockstar North has revealed the scale of its ambition for Grand Theft Auto Online, saying it wants ‘to create an entire GTA world’ for the player to traverse.
Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies said that an online environment had been the developer’s dream since Grand Theft Auto 3, and that he hopes previous work can be brought together with future titles to create a vast GTA world.
Benzies told Game Informer that Rockstar hopes to ‘create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we’ve done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them.’
He went on to describe the already ambitious Grand Theft Auto online that will come with the forthcoming GTA 5 as ‘a beginning’ and said that one day they will have an environment so complex players could spend years there before getting bored.
‘Grand Theft Auto Online has been in our minds for a long time – since we started on Grand Theft Auto 3,’ he added.
‘We’ve always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over.
‘I think we’ve managed to achieve something very close to our dream.’
Rockstar unveiled GTA Online in August with an impressive trailer, later confirming that there be more than 700 missions embedded in it.
Benzies also told CVG that they intend to add new locations ‘all the time’.
‘We’ve set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we’ve got,’ he said. ‘We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever.’
Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox 360 and PS3 hits doorsteps on September 17.
