The next Gears of War game from Black Tusk Studios is still in the concept and prototyping stage, according to studio manager Rod Fergusson.
In February, Microsoft's Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, suggested we won't get our hands on the next Gears title any time soon. On today's live episode of the "Black Tusk Rodcast," Fergusson further drove that point home, saying "We're only 100 days in." He was unable to answer any specific community questions about the upcoming game.
Fergusson also jokingly gave the audience a first "look" at some concept art for Black Tusk's Gears game. As you can see below, it's far too blurry to see anything substantial. Behold!
When asked if Black Tusk would stick to the canon established in Gears of War's books and graphic novels, Fergusson replied, "Yes, as best we can. I believe fun is greater than canon. That's not to say I'm going out of my way to destroy canon, but if I get to a situation that may invalidate a comic book or a book, I'm going to make that fun decision."
In January, Microsoft acquired the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games and handed development duties to Vancouver-based Black Tusk Studios.
